Letter to schools criticizing gays stirs emotion

Members of the local gay community are hoping to confront School Board member Stephen Hunt (at-large) at this week’s regular meeting and demand his resignation after he sent a letter to every high school principal in the county describing homosexuality as a destructive, unnatural lifestyle.

The School Board and superintendent have already issued public reprimands, and Hunt has apologized for sending last week’s letter, in which he encouraged principals to provide students with information from ex-gays when discussing homosexuality.

He listed a variety of resources for that material and offered to provide schools with a video portraying “the reality as opposed to the ‘Will and Grace’ version of homosexuality.”
