Leesburg 4th of July Parade, 2008

Thank you to everyone who helped to make our fourth year in the parade a success! The rain held off until afternoon, and there was only moderate picnic- and float-related bloodshed.

Please be careful out there, and slowly back away from the staple gun.

Soulforce Equality Ride visit to PHC, April 12, 2007

In the words of Patrick Henry College founder and chancellor Michael Farris: “We don’t need the world’s knowledge and information to guide us. We need the world’s knowledge and information, but it’s basically for, in political terms, what we call opposition research.” Not even “opposition research” was reason enough for the administration of PHC to permit dialogue between its students and the Soulforce Equality Riders, a group of young people with the simple message that one can be both Christian and gay. The Equality Ride visit was met with the largest show of police force the Riders have encountered at any previous school.

In contrast, dozens of community members made the Riders feel welcome by providing breakfast, transportation and other logistical support, and stopping by the prayer vigil throughout the day. Equality Loudoun hosted a reception for the Riders and the PHC community, which was attended by 60 people.

The Cypress Project, October 14, 2006

In response to an anti-gay hate crime perpetrated in Aldie at the end of July, 2006, Equality Loudoun became one of the founding members of The Cypress Project, a coalition of community organizations and churches dedicated to the healing and restoration of those targeted by such crimes in the Commonwealth of Virginia. These are pictures from the community work day to replant and restore the vandalized property (the link will direct you to an external site). Thank you to all who participated – as John and Heyward said, you are angels.
