School Board confronts free speech in schools

A School Board committee meets tonight to craft a policy that, had it been in place, would have prevented “Offsides” from being staged at Stone Bridge High School three months ago.

“Offsides,” written and directed by Stone Bridge senior Sabrina Audrey Jess, dramatized the agony of a popular high school football player who comes to terms with his homosexuality.

The furor kicked off by the play has yet to die down. Critics, led by Del. Richard Black (R-eastern Loudoun), have accused the school administration of everything from being asleep at the switch to promoting a “homosexual agenda” in taxpayer-funded classrooms. Black did not see the play.
