Thank your representatives for supporting fairness

Recently, Equality Virginia teamed with the Log Cabin Republican Club of Virginia and the Virginia Partisans Gay and Lesbian Democratic Club in conducting a statewide effort to have our elected officials pledge that they would not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation in their legislative offices. Forty-three members of the House of Delegates, 21 members of the Virginia Senate, Governor Mark Warner, Lt. Governor Tim Kaine and Attorney General Jerry Kilgore all signed pledges, or made policy statements, stating their fundamental support for fairness in hiring.

Unfortunately, religious extremists in Virginia are trying to turn up the heat on our elected officials for supporting fairness in the workplace.

For example, see Kilgore criticized for tie to gay-rights pledge in the Virginia Pilot.

Please use Equality Virginia’s Online Action Center to write an e-mail letter to your elected officials if they made the pledge and thank them for their support.

You can find out who your elected officials are by going to the Online Action Center and clicking on the “Elected Officials” tab at the top of the “Take Action” page.

A list of those who pledged is listed in the “Thank You” action alert. If your elected officials did not make the pledge choose the “Urge your Senator/Delegate” email and with one click you can send a free email urging them to sign onto the pledge.

Thank you for taking action and supporting Equality!
