The last month has seen numerous tributes to Rosa Parks. It’s too bad her courageous stand against legal segregation can’t be favorably depicted in a high school theatrical presentation in Loudoun County.
When Delegate Dick Black starting seeing homosexuals kissing around every corner, the school board panicked and formulated a policy that forbids anything “advocating the commission of illegal acts.” This policy would prevent any student presentation that was favorable to civil disobedience as practiced by Rosa Parks, Mahatma Gandhi, the Boston Tea Party participants, or even Jesus Christ.
Now that the Ayatollah Black has been defeated, perhaps the school board would feel safe revisiting this ill-advised policy. I urge them to do so.
