Resolution of NAACP, Loudoun County Branch

The Loudoun County NAACP wishes to express its condemnation of the Hate Crime that occurred on July 29th in Aldie, Virginia, and to support the efforts of The Cypress Project to bring together organizations and individuals who oppose intolerance and bigotry in their community.

We also commend the Leesburg Town Council for their public opposition "to crimes inspired by hate directed at any group of people" and the Town's commitment to inclusion as a fundamental aspect of our community.

Julian Bond, Chairman of the Board of the National NAACP made it perfectly clear in his op-ed piece in the Hampton Roads Pilot August 16th that the NAACP opposes the federal marriage amendment and any efforts "to write bigotry into Virginia's constitution." He said "Gay and lesbian rights are not 'special rights' in any way. It isn't 'special' to be free from discrimination. It is an ordinary, universal entitlement of citizenship."
