(June 7, 2005) Equality Loudoun is pleased to announce that the Capital Pride Planning Committee has selected its acting president, David Weintraub, as one of nine Capital Pride Heroes for 2005.

These individuals are nominated from within the Washington DC area community and honored for “extraordinary efforts to bring full equality to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.”

“I’m obviously very honored, and glad that regional leaders of the community recognize the importance of grassroots advocacy in places like Loudoun County,” said Weintraub. “It’s a challenging place, but the very thing that makes it challenging also gives us tremendous opportunities to reach out to our neighbors. The extreme rhetoric coming from the professional anti-gay activists in our community can backfire quickly and is winning us even more allies.”

“People who get to know us realize that we’re not a threat,” added member Vince Black. “The people who live and work beside us can see for themselves that all we want is fair and equal treatment.”

Equality Loudoun is a nonpartisan community and advocacy organization working to improve the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people in Loudoun County, and eliminate discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
